Your Wellington Business Trip

By Paul Johnson | 7 January 2021

The early morning alarm clock, the mad dash to press a shirt and the race to the airport as you double-check the slides of your presentation in the taxi...

Travelling for work isn't something we always look forward to, though in Wellington, your corporate trip can easily become a fulfilling mini-break.

With a host of independent businesses, galleries, museums and hiking trails, our cool little capital offers a host of must-see attractions and experiences that you can't miss during your trip.

MAKE A PLAN

Your business goals may be your top priority, but be sure to make some personal goals too.

Do you want to catch the latest exhibition at Te Papa? Try Fix and Fogg's peanut butter toast from their famous window in Hannah's Laneway? Or is a snap at the top of Mount Victoria more your thing? Make a simple schedule of attractions and activities you'd like to see and do in your spare time.

You may only have a few hours in-between meetings so create a personalised google map. Mark out and star all the places you'd like to see in advance, then, whenever you find yourself with a spare hour in Welly, you can locate the attractions nearest to you. You'll be ticking off your must-visit list in no time.

    • Visit New Zealand's Parliament.
    • Take a stroll to the vibrant waterfront.
    • Ride the Wellington Cable Car and take in the panoramic view of the city.

RELAX AND UNWIND

While you may have a string of meetings, or a day-long conference to attend, tempting as it may be to retreat to your studio or suite, be sure to plan some downtime and relax.

Seek sanctuary from the city and relax and refocus your mind with a few laps of the pool, an invigorating sauna or a soothing soak in the spa pool. For the more active amongst us, sweat out any stress in the fitness centre.

A short stroll can do wonders for a tired mind, just minutes from the hotel is Wellington's lush Botanic Garden offering 26 hectares of unique flora, bush walks and manicured gardens to lose yourself in and refocus your thoughts.

INDULGE IN SOME LOCAL FLAVOUR

A welcome perk of visiting a new city is the chance to sample the best local food and Wellington, the capital of cuisine, does not disappoint.
While you could always indulge in room service, or our curated minibar of local Wellington produce, get out of your room and head to Artisan on level one, offering authentic kiwi cuisine from executive chef MacLean Fraser. Our concierge team are always on hand to provide dining recommendations across the city too, including a host of waterfront restaurants such as Dockside, ideal for people watching.

CATCH UP ON EMAILS

If you really must continue working once back at the hotel, we've got you covered with unlimited, complimentary WiFi across the hotel and a host of spots across our lobby and mezzanine to secrete yourself away and fire off those last-minute emails and our Lobby Café will keep you well-nourished and suitably caffeinated too.

EXTEND YOUR TRIP

Of course, with so much to do in the capital, it's likely you'll need a few more days to see it all. Tack on an extra day or two to your trip and turn your business trip into an economical mini-break. You can either enjoy the extra 'me-time' or upgrade to a suite and bring the family for a long weekend in the city.
