We were determined to create something special when we recently refurbished the Bolton Hotel as part of our 10-year anniversary celebrations. Being independent gave us the opportunity to express ourselves differently from other hotels. We wanted to create a 5-star atmosphere: sophisticated and comfortable, yet approachable as well. The aim was to make every part of the hotel a welcoming and relaxing space.
So first up, we set about transforming the lobby. Guests can now enjoy an espresso café, comfy chairs, cosy nooks around the fireplace, free wi-fi and other amenities such as i-pad check in.
In the evening the espresso café transitions into a bar and guests can choose from a menu that stocks small dishes, cured meat platters, a comprehensive wine list, cocktails and craft beers. People are encouraged to sink back in the comfy chairs and relax, as they would in their own lounge.
Once the refurbishment of the lobby was completed we commenced work on the hotel corridors. Warwick Angus, Managing Director of the Bolton Hotel is the nephew of iconic New Zealand artist Rita Angus. His connection to the Angus private family collection meant we were able to access some pretty special art for our walls. The corridors are now feature prints by Rita Angus, with many of the pieces on display rarely seen.
Finally we tackled the drive-through. We wanted to make our valet parking more than simply parking your car. We wanted to create a seamless experience – one where guests receive a warm welcome on the way in and a problem-free goodbye on the way out. Valet parking can be pre-booked and is charged at $30 per night.
During the refurbishment we installed an Escea fireplace. After seeing the completed product Escea approached us to write a case study on the project, we couldn't be happier with the result and the cosy fireplace setting has been enjoyed by many guests already.
