Bolton Hotel seeks to create exceptional moments for our guests, providing outstanding service. We do this by providing a supportive family-feel where no team member is just a number which creates a warm, caring environment that extends to the guest experience. We have a genuine love for great hospitality and are our guest's home away from home.
Building upon the foundation of Wellington's premier independent, NZ family-owned hotel, to establish a Bolton Hotel legacy by investing in our people, creating exceptional experiences. We're focused on working with our local culture, celebrating diversity.
Bolton Hotel is named after the Bolton, one of the first ships to land settlers in the harbour of Wellington in 1840 from the United Kingdom. On the Bolton Ship, a young woman, Sophia Harris nurtured a cutting of her favourite rose in a potato. The rose lasted the voyage and now resides in a small garden outside Bolton Hotel.
You will find a model replica of the Bolton ship in the hotel lobby, alongside the full passenger list.
Bolton Hotel represents Wellington, lining the hallways and lobby of our hotel, you will see many beautiful works created by Rita Angus, a prominent Wellington artist of the twentieth century in New Zealand. There's a family link too, Rita Angus is in fact the Aunt of our Managing Director, Warwick Angus.
