Stephen Morris is the Godfather of Wellington Cuisine. A pedantic perfectionist, Steve’s passion for good ingredients and exquisite flavours is peppered through gourmet kitchens worldwide.  Having trained some of New-Zealand’s most celebrated chefs, Steve is known as an impeccable cook in his own right.

Making his mark at the renowned Huka Lodge, Steve went on to twice win Chef of the year and has since competed in international competitions at the highest level. He has run the kitchens of a number of Wellington Restaurants including Brasserie and his own restaurants Bellazar and Fog City in Courtenay Place.

Not content with cooking alone, Steve has been committed to nurturing talent through his 16 years as part-time Cuisine Tutor at Weltec. Some of Steve’s students now control top New Zealand kitchens including Wharekauhau, Logan Brown, Charlie Bill and Gusto. His most notable apprentice being Monica Galetti of UK Masterchef fame and Sous Chef at two Michelin star restaurant le Gavroche under the helm of Michel Roux Jr.

This year Steve will take his extensive knowledge and aptitude for cuisine education to the masses with the launch of Raising the Standard – a series of online tutorials that will allow gourmet enthusiasts to learn classical technique at home.
